About Dr. Carrie

A lifetime of
compassionate care.

Refining a unique holistic approach to wellness for her patients.

Dr. Carrie’s career has been characterized by continuous adaptation to the needs of her patients. After obtaining her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Carrie started her medical career in an outpatient family medicine clinic. After six years of rapid-fire appointments and mountains of paperwork, she moved to become the Medical Director of a small, family-owned hospice and palliative care company, hoping to find more one-on-one time with her patients. Working with numerous patients confronting cancer diagnoses, Dr. Carrie gained extensive and valuable professional experience. She visited patients in their homes, listened to their stories, and discovered the enrichment of true patient-doctor connection. In these close interactions, Dr. Carrie learned that treating the mind, spirit, and emotions for her patients was just as important as physical treatment. She was able to bring a different level of comfort and wellness as she guided them to achieve balance and mindfulness in all aspects of their lives.

Around this period, Dr. Carrie experienced the personal impacts of cancer when she lost her uncle to kidney cancer and a beloved friend with school-aged children to metastatic breast cancer. Both experiences further impressed upon her the need for more effective spiritual and emotional management during a patient’s battle with any diagnosis. Despite how rewarding she found this position, after 10 years as Medical Director she paused her practice of medicine in order to spend more time with her husband and growing children. Still, she continued to pursue certification and gain valuable experience with alternative treatment methodologies, adding certifications in EFT and the Whole Health Medicine Institute to her previous studies in yoga, meditation, Reiki, Ayurveda, and more.

Today, Dr. Carrie works with all of her patients, utilizing her background in both Eastern and Western medicine to provide much-needed comfort. Her unique holistic approach to achieving peace and balance augments her patients’ existing treatment and enhances their quality of life.

A note from Dr. Carrie.

“Practicing medicine is my great honor and privilege. However, throughout my time with hospice and palliative care I started using additional tools with my patients, such as meditation, Reiki, and osteopathic manipulative therapy. These alternative therapies seemed to comfort my patients on a different level. I realized that there is so much more to a person’s disease than just their physical ailments. Their support network, beliefs about their health and purpose in this life (just to name a few) are all contributing factors in a patient’s ability to face the rigors of cancer treatment and an uncertain future. Patients who were content with most areas of their lives experienced peace at the end. Others who did not feel fulfilled had a harder time with their illnesses–not just at the end, but throughout the treatment process.

“My ultimate goal is to provide healing to the mind and spirit, an often-overlooked, but incredibly vital aspect of care for patients with life-threatening disease. We embark on this process either individually or with a group of like-minded patients who want to use the power of a supportive community to help them move toward their goals. First we look at their beliefs about health and disease, and I help them build a team of personal and professional support. Together, using the patient’s intuition as a guide, we customize a program that brings balance to their emotional health, mental health, spirituality, beliefs about money, creativity, relationships, environment, and work-life purpose. By creating harmony within these elements the body relaxes and creates an environment that allows healing on all levels and patients respond more favorably to their medical treatment. Most importantly, though, patients can experience less distress and more joy as they move forward on this journey.”
